In case you guys missed out on the hundreds of movies on television and the countless holiday commercials, Christmas is upon us. It is that time of the year when people go out and empty their checking accounts and let the road rage flow. The social gatherings begin and the competition of decorating starts.
I have no problem with buying gifts, decorating, and sitting back and watching Elf. In fact, I love it! But for some reason, I just feel like Christmas doesn’t mean what it use to. I feel like we have forgotten the joy that Christmas brings. Now Christmas stresses out most people! And stores use it as a way to earn an extra buck. And it is so sad to see.
So this Christmas, I hope to see more people bring back the joy. Go out and buy a present for a charity. Snuggle up in your pajamas and watch The Grinch. Go have a snowball fight with a group of kids. Go drive around and look at Christmas lights while jamming to your favorite Christmas songs on the radio. Christmas is a time that should be spent with those we love and care about. It isnt about getting presents, but spreading peace and joy.
And don’t forget what the wise Buddy the Elf said, ” The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear” :)
So go out and make the difference :)
So I just deactivated my Facebook account. Why? Because for several reasons actually.
1. Facebook is just complicated these days. Remember when it was cool? And all you did was update a status and poke people? Yes, those were the days. Or how awesome of a feeling was it when you got a piece of flair from someone?! But now you have no clue what is a current update, and you can share things. Excuse me, did you say share things? Yes, yes I did. You know that thing we love to do on Tumblr called “Reblog”? Well now, you can do it Facebook and to be honest…it’s kinda lame.
2. Facebook is for people who need social recognition. The status update has become a competition of creativity, wit, and intelligence. Ignorant people post quotes by authors of whom they never had read their work. They try to sound smart and be intellectual when in all reality, they aren’t. You may say, wow that is harsh. And to some degree it is, but it’s still true. Another ways people have to get their “Likes” is by checking in at Starbucks or some other popular establishment and then they caption it with, “Mmm…I love my pumpkin spice latte!! yummy yummy yummmm!!” Since when did you think it was cool to sound like you’re from the Real Housewives?
3. This is going to sound major lame but we are ALL guilty of it and that is…having to see your ex with someone else. Don’t judge, we all do it. And we all know how much it sucks to see that person you loved with all your heart all over someone else. And then they write on each others walls about how great they are? Please do me a favor and stop twisting the knife in my back which you placed there!!
You may be reading this and thinking, wow…this kid sounds like a hater! And maybe I am, but you still have to agree that these are all valid reasons. I would post my reasons as to why I love Tumblr but the list could go on and on. I will briefly state that I do love it here. Tumblr is like a community for all of us socially awkward people who are aren’t the life of a party, aren’t on the top of the dating list, but we do have the brightest imaginations in the world. It’s a place where I feel like I can post anything and everything without being judged. It’s a place where I have met people and established friendships that I consider closer then those I have known my whole life.
So yes, Tumblr > Facebook
